Arizona Bible Class Newsletter
October, 2017

Greetings Arizona Bible Class Student,
The cooler weather has finally arrived and all of my venues are up and off to a great start. I wonít be long before we start to welcome our winter visitors back to class. I have a great job!
There is not too much new to address in this newsletter but I want to stay in contact with you and establish contact with the new students who are gathering for class at St. Andrews in Chandler. Monday mornings are very exciting at St. Andrews and my commute to the class is only four minutes from my house. Compare that to the 55 miles (one way) that I drive to greet the good students at St. Clement of Rome each Thursday. What a difference.
Since my last newsletter I have sent you word (via email) about the Passion Play in Germany. That trip is still a long way off (two and a half years to be exact) but this is the time that the tickets go on sale and it will sell out. That is a guarantee. Call Executours for more information and to have all your travel questions answered.

Summer Series - My Case for Christ - the Mp3 Disks here!
The summer series was a great success. The four lectures were successfully recorded and are now available to purchase at the back table in the class that you attend. Each Mp3 disk (they look like a CD but will only play in an Mp3 compatible player, your DVD player for instance) is per unit. You are free to copy the material to your computer and then send it out via your social media connections. Happy listening, it is a really good series.

2nd Annual Southwest Biblical Conference
The second annual Southwest Biblical Conference will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle church in Phoenix on Saturday, November 18 from 8:30 - 12:30 AM. This year the theme is The Incarnation of Christ: Godís Radical Presence in Our Lives. This year we will be joined by Bishop Jim Wall from Gallup New Mexico. Bishop Wall is a former priest from the diocese of Phoenix who was installed as a Bishop three years ago. Bishop Wall will celebrate the opening Mass and preach at that Mass to open the conference. His talk will be followed by three others, including my own, that will all be held in the parish church.
The cost is a mere and includes all the conference presentations and the generous refreshments provided by the parish. This will be a great pre-thanksgiving pick me up in advance of that family holiday.
You can call Dr. Eric Westby at St. Thomas at 602-954-9089 to find out more information or to register. You can also find out more about the event and the other speakers and register online at wwe.ictphx.org

New Class at St. Andrew the Apostle in Chandler!
The new Bible class at St. Andrews is up and running. The response to the class has been excellent as we have gathered in the parish hall each Monday morning students new and old. I delight in re-greeting students who used to attend other classes in the valley. Most of them brought a friend and the response has been very positive. I am currently recording these sessions in Genesis and will create an Mp3 disk of the series at the end of the fall quarter. This will be my most up to date Mp3 offering and I plan to make the same recordings available when I complete each book in the St. Andrews venue.
We have a GREAT team working behind the scenes at St. Andrews and I am so fortunate to know of the support of so many dedicated students to this new class. Thanks!

Remember that you can find me on the Bishops Hour radio program (AM 1310) which broadcasts on Monday at 11 am and again on Thursday evening at 9 pm. Each week I provide a ten minute reflection on the Gospel for the coming weekend liturgies. My insights will go a long way toward helping you be better prepared to hear and understand the Gospel each week.
The Diocese of Phoenix has also put the Bishops Hour on iTunes. Get the App and do a search for the program. It is free to download and you can subscribe so that the program will come to your phone or computer on a weekly basis. Israel Trip - March 12 - 22, 2018
The Flyers for this trip are now on the registration tables at your Bible class. Take a look and book quickly because the interest level is high and the dates are perfect. We return to Phoenix just a few days before Palm Sunday and the celebrations of Holy Week and Easter. You trip to the Holy Land will come back to life when you hear the readings and participate in all the church services associated with Holy Week.
From now on I will be travelling to Israel once every two years. My next trip after this will be in the fall of 2020. Keep that in mind as you discern if this is the trip for you. Israel is a sellerís market these days as pilgrimage and faith based travelers from all over the world do not feel it is safe to travel to Egypt or Turkey. So, they set their sights on Israel.
We have a wonderful trip planned and I hope that you might be part of the group. I will lecture almost 30 times and each time on the site of the Biblical event that we are remembering in our travels. We will visit both Old and New Testament sites on a daily basis and will be assisted by my favorite Israeli Guide Moshe. It is going to be a great trip
. Devotion Travel can be contacted directly in California by calling (800) 323-7004. Ask for Yvonne, she is amazing and will assist you in any way that she can.

Arizona Bible Class Trip to Germany - May 2020!
Most of you are aware that Executours travel has secured thirty-eight spots for the once a decade Passion Play that is held in Omeramergau Germany. This Passion Play has been in continual production since the middle of the 1600ís! A village cast of over 1200 present the Passion of the Lord over a two night performance that we are going to attend.
In addition we will be visiting a number of European capitals with guided stops on the way to Germany. More information about this trip can be found at the Executours website (executours.com/abc) or by calling at 1-310-552-0786
. Dr. Creasy and I will each host the 38 travelers on this trip. Space is very limited as this is a worldwide event and is only held once every ten years.

In Conclusion,
My work with the American Bible Society continues to produce good fruit. I am now writing a weekly Gospel reflection series for them called Lectio Divina.
Lectio Divina is an ancient way to read, meditate, pray and contemplate upon the Gospel reading for each Sunday liturgy. The American Bible Society is dedicated to supporting Catholic Christians by providing this tool to use in your weekly preparation for Mass. We would all like to see more Catholics engage more frequently with the Word of God. I am honored to build this association with such a fine Biblical institution and can now present to you the way to access the Lectio Divina material from the American Bible Society completely free of charge.
Here is how you can access the Lectio Divina material and have it sent directly to your personal email. This practice will bless you as you prepare for the Mass you attend each week. If you are not a Catholic Christian these reflections allow you to read and pray through a specific Gospel passage on a weekly basis. Take the time to access this meditation. It is delivered to your email on Monday in anticipation of the following weekend liturgy. Once you are signed up you can forward the material to others in your email circle of friends and they can sign up with a quick link that ABS provides at the bottom of the page. Help me spread the good word!

Here are the steps:
1. Access American Bible Society website online
2. Follow prompts to Biblical Resources
3. Click on the tab for "Individuals"
4. In the search box type Lectio Divina
5. Click "read more" at the bottom of the first paragraph
6. Click "get the resource" - all you need to do it add your email address and you are set.

Never forget what a great student you are!
Peace and Good,

Arizona Bible Class Newsletter
August, 2017

Greetings Bible Class Student,

Greetings Arizona Bible Class students. We did it! We made it through another July and August. Itís time to start thinking about the fall and the opening of your Bible class in all of our regular venues. Note well that the classes begin a week earlier this year to accommodate my travel dates that will take us to Spain and Portugal. All but the MONDAY classes open the week of Labor Day this year.

My website ArizonaBibleClass.com is still up and operational. We have adjusted the offerings so that you can now access my complete Bible recordings but you have to do so by purchasing the entire book which will come to you as a listing of the individual lectures. The book of Genesis is 12 lectures long. The Gospel of Mark is 8. You get the picture. This is the best we can do for now as I advance my efforts to get the individual lectures up on a PodBean site so that they can be accessed individually. My brilliant nephew Andrew is helping me with this project.

I am looking forward to greeting you in class in a couple of weeks.

Summer Series - My Case for Christ - the MP3 Disks are on the way!
The summer series was a great success. I was able to record each of the four lectures and currently Spiritenterprises is working on creating the MP3 disk that I will have for sale sometime in September. This would be a great way for you to follow the series if you could not attend or to refresh your memory as we covered a lot of interesting material. Those who were able to attend will attest to the fact that we all became seasoned critical thinkers in this series of lectures.

New Class at St. Andrew the Apostle in Chandler! While I work diligently to promote the class at St. Andrewís I need your help to get the word out to your friends.
Anyone you know who lives in Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Sun Lakes or Awatukee is "freeway" close to this venue. The church complex is beautiful and the staff is excited to welcome all students from any other non-parish destination. I need you to send out an email blast, text your friends or even go "old school" and make a phone call or two to folks who might be interested in my Bible class. I will open the class on Monday, September 11 at 9:30 am in the parish hall. The class will meet until 11 each week and in the fall I will teach my way through the Book of Genesis.
I hope that you are a satisfied customer and a student who will share the blessing of this Bible class with someone you know. I will thank you in advance for your kind consideration of this request to assist in promoting this new class in Chandler.

By the time you get this newsletter I will have completed my lectures that I am going to give at this yearís Marion Conference. The Marion Conference has sold out in advance and I have been offered two times to teach the assembled attendees. I will keep you in mind as I teach as I know some of you will be there. This will be a great way to expand my influence as a Bible teacher in the Church and I am very grateful to all of the folks who advocated for my inclusion as one of the conference speakers. You know who you are, so thanks!

Arizona Bible Class Newsletter
Greetings Bible Class Student,
I am writing this newsletter in the middle of our three week break from class. In my time away Diane and I have hosted her brother Tim here in Arizona and also survived the arrival and stay of Garth, Rebecca and their three delightful children who kept us on our grandparent toes for the better part of a week. It was a whirlwind around here filled with daily activity, joy and laughter. Our youngest granddaughter, June is only nine months old. She was a real trooper who survived in a very un-baby proof home. I am looking forward to a few more days of rest and relaxation (that means cycling and more golf) before returning to you and your class which will resume the week after Easter (April 17-21).

Summer Series Announcement
We will have a Summer Series of lectures this year in all of my regular venues. I have not yet decided on a topic but have narrowed it down to two possible options. I am prayerfully deliberating between the two as this newsletter is sent out.
Per usual we will meet for four weeks in August. I will keep you posted.

The Bishopís Hour - Immaculate Heart Radio in Phoenix dphx.org/catholic-media - and now on iTunes

Iím on the Radio! As you know I have been working with the folks at the Diocesan office to find a way to share my Gospel reflections on the radio. We have now worked out all the details and I now have a weekly slot on the Bishopís Hour which airs on Immaculate Heart Radio (AM 1310) at 11 AM on Mondays and is repeated on Thursday at 9 PM
The easiest way to listen to my reflections is by finding the program on the Diocese of Phoenix website. Type in dphx.org/catholic-media in your favorite search engine and you will be directed to the podcast page for the Diocese. When you arrive you will find the face of Mr. Michael Dixon who hostís the Bishops Hour program. Press the play button and slide the sound bar marker to the twenty minute mark in the program until you hear me! Enjoy my brief ten minute reflections.
These weekly reflections can be accessed at any time during the week. Share this with as many folks as you can. This is the best way to get the full message of the Gospel out to those who will attend Mass the following weekend. You (and they) will be in the know as the Gospel is read and preached on at Mass.

Big News! The Bishops Hour is on iTunes The Bishopís Hour is now on iTunes! This is great. The download is free. Download the iTunes app and search for The Bishops Hour. When you subscribe to the show it will be sent to your phone or computer (for free) and you can listen to my reflections any time you like. You have got to love modern technology.

In the meantime you are welcome to contact my travel providers at Devotion Travel (Executours) and ask to be placed on an email announcement list. When the details of the trip are known they will email that information directly to you. There is no cost to get on the list and it gives me a better idea of how excited folks might be to travel with me in 2018. Devotion Travel can be reached in California by calling (800) 323-7004.

Excellent PragerUniverstiy.com Youtube Video Released Every Bible student in my classes should take a moment to access PragerUniversity.com video on the history of the Palestinian state in the Middle East. In this new video you will learn that the people who call themselves Palestinian have been offered and have rejected the offer of a state five times since the turn of the 20th century.
Find your way to PragerUniversity.com and search for the YouTube video entitled "Why Isnít There A Palestinian State?" Each Prager University video is delivered on YouTube and is only 5 minutes long. This is a good one that should not be missed.
